- The BCSP Code of Ethics has been updated. It now applies to applicants and candidates as well as credential holders. The copy on the BCSP Policies & Forms page replaces previous versions, including any that may appear at the beginning of BCSP exams.

Eligibility/Application
Effective Date: Ongoing
- Qualified Academic Programs (QAPs) and Qualified Equivalent Programs (QEPs), awarding the Graduate Safety Practitioner® (GSP®) and Transitional Safety Practitioner (TSP) , are updated quarterly and can be found listed on the programs’ respective pages.
Examination
Effective Date:Â February 1, 2024
- The Safety Management Specialist® (SMS®) exam will on this date be updated for all candidates. Details can be found in the SMS2 Exam Blueprint, downloaded at BCSP.ORG/SMS.
- The Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician® (OHST®) exam will on this date be updated for all candidates. Details can be found in the OHST6 Exam Blueprint, downloaded at BCSP.ORG/OHST.
Recertification/Renewal

- Credentials granting recertification points are updated quarterly, and can always be found in the Recertification Guide’s Category 10.
Effective Date:Â July 1, 2023
- To continue and improve upon recognition of BCSP credentials’ value, certification will now require 0.5 points from ethics courses every recertification cycle, beginning with recertification cycles that start July 1, 2023, or later.
- A typical recertification cycle lasts five years, beginning on July 1 following achievement of your certification and ending on June 30 of the fifth year. Full details on recertification and points can be found on the Recertification page.
