BCSP applicants, candidates, and credential holders must abide by the BCSP Bylaws and uphold the Code of Ethics.
BCSP’s Commitment to Fairness and Impartiality
The Board of Certified Safety Professionals is committed to fairness in every aspect of our operation. We have intentionally structured ourselves to segregate responsibilities in our organization to maintain candidate confidentiality, operate with impartiality, and ensure objectivity.
BCSP’s Complaint Policies
1. BCSP has a policy that guides receipt, evaluation, and decision-making on complaints related to BCSP certification activities. These complaints must be received in writing addressed to BCSP headquarters, received via email at bcsp@bcsp.org, or by some other written means. The complaint must include the content of the complaint as well as the complainant’s name and contact information. Received complaints will be evaluated to determine if they meet the parameters of a certification activity complaint. Relevant complaints will be communicated to the appropriate department within BCSP. All complaints are reviewed and investigated in a timely manner. Steps taken to address the complaint will be communicated to the complainant by the director of the appropriate department or an assigned staff member via email or phone call.
2. BCSP also has policies and forms that guide the handling of ethics violations by credential holders, unauthorized use, and appeals. Complaints of misuse of BCSP credentials or ethics violations must be submitted by completing the BCSP Complaint Form and providing relevant supporting documentation. A complaint cannot be submitted anonymously. All complaints are reviewed and relevant complaints are thoroughly investigated in a timely manner. Steps taken to address the complaint will be communicated to the complainant by the Executive Department by email. Some cases may take six months or more to conclude. BCSP is committed to impartiality and fairness in carrying out its responsibilities to the public and protecting the rights of accused individuals. Although the vast majority of reports received relating to misuse of credentials do not result in publishing individuals on the Unauthorized Use Only page of BCSP’s Credential Directory, filing a complaint provides means to resolving a correctable misrepresentation. Guidelines and forms related to complaints are located at the bottom of this page.
Non-Discrimination Policy
BCSP evaluates all candidates seeking certification without regard to religion, ethnicity, gender, age, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation.
Test Accommodations
It is the policy of BCSP to provide test accommodations that comply with the United States’ (U.S.) Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) requirements and/or any other legally required accommodations. No candidate for certification, in the U.S. or otherwise, shall experience discrimination for having a disability or requiring other accommodations.
Policy Changes
Information regarding policy updates are recorded in the Current Changes Index as part of our effort to announce and archive any changes to our certification processes.
