Safe + Sound Week Underway

August 17, 2018

Safe + Sound Week UnderwayThe 2018 Safe + Sound Week is underway, and organizations and companies around the country are taking part. Organizations like the American Feed Industry Association, International Dairy Foods Association, the American Petroleum Institute, International Safety Equipment Association, and many more are getting involved on Twitter using the #SafeAndSound2018 hashtag.

Capital Equipment participated by tweeting: “This week our employees are encouraged to #spotthehazard by looking for a potential hazard in their work area. Identifying and correcting hazards BEFORE someone gets hurt ensures our employees go home to their families safe and sound.”

The Society for Maintenance & Reliability Professionals tweeted, “When an organization has a safety culture in which safe practices are performed out of habit, you will also find good physical asset management practices.”

AIHA posed a question to their followers, asking them to share their stories about how they’re getting workers involved with Safe + Sound Week. In response, Paul Burchfield (@5teel_5afety) responded, ” We had an OSHA trainer come in and talk about everyone being a safety leader…and inspiring a safety culture by showing teammates that their input matters in protecting everyone else.”

The event is a nationwide effort to raise awareness of the value of workplace safety and health programs. A key focus is encouraging engagement in safety from all members of an organization. Good safety programs help employers and workers identify and manage workplace hazards before they cause injury or illness, improving a company’s financial bottom line, demonstrating corporate responsibility, and making sure workers return home to their families every day.

Organizations interested in ensuring workplace safety can build or improve upon their safety programs through the guidelines developed in OSHA’s Recommended Practices for Safety and Health Programs.
