Eligibility/Application

Effective Date:Â Second Quarter, 2011
- Before one can qualify for the Comprehensive Practice Examination (CSP) you must have at least three years of applicable work experience. Education and other credentials cannot be substituted for work experience.
- The time period to submit the annual renewal is now due by March 31.
- The new requirements for CHST are as follows:
- Candidates must have a High School Diploma/or GED.
- If a candidate has no college experience, they need 3 years of construction experience where at least 35% of the work includes safety duties.
- If a candidate has an associate’s degree or higher, they would need 2 years of construction experience with at least 35% of the work includes safety duties.
- If a candidate has any ABET accredited safety-related associate degree or higher they would need 1 year of construction work where safety is at least 35% of the job duties.
- A candidate can sit for the CHST exam without having met the certification requirements. They would hold the ACHST interim certification until they have met the full requirement.
Effective Date:Â Fourth Quarter, 2011
- Services for evaluating degrees from universities outside the United States will be expanded to include NACES members Educational Perspective (EP), Educational Records Evaluation Service (ERES), International Consultants of Delaware (ICD), International Education Research Foundation (IERF) and SpanTran Educational Services.
Examination
Effective Date:Â January 1, 2011
- Safety Trained Supervisor Examination Fee Increase to $185
- All certifications – 60 Day Examination Extension Increase to $75
Effective Date:Â January 3, 2011
- The STS-Construction examination blueprint will change on January 3, 2011. This change will only affect the construction examination. The General Industry examination and the Petrochemical examination remain the same.
- Application Deadline for the old STS-Construction examination: December 17, 2010. Any application received on or after December 17, 2010 will not be processed until January 3, 2011 and will take the new construction examination
- Exam registration for the old STS-Construction examination: December 30, 2010. Any examination registrations that are received after December 30, 2010 will take the new construction examination.
Recertification/Renewal
Effective Date:Â January 1, 2011
- Recertification points for distance learning safety-related courses or seminars will be increased to match those of live courses in Recertification Category 7.
Reinstatement
Effective Date:Â January 1, 2011
- Retired status holders who have passed their recertification cycle and want to return to active certified status are required to purchase and pass their certification examination.
- Retired status holders who have not passed their recertification cycle can return to active status by paying the difference in annual fees for the years they held retired status.
- For those who have been invalidated for non-payment and their recertification cycle has past, they will have to demonstrate compliance for recertification by passing and sitting for the certification examination they once held, plus pay renewal and reinstatement fees.
- The invalidation date of someone’s certification will begin on December 31, 20xx of the previous year.
Effective Date:Â First Quarter, 2011
- Those seeking reinstatement in a period of time no more than 3 months from their recertification due date have a once-a-lifetime option to submit the recertification worksheet and audit materials, pay any unpaid renewal fees, and pay a fee ($800 for the CSP, $400 for others) rather than take retake their exam.
