Past Years' Policy and Procedure Changes

General

Effective Date: January 1, 2013

  • Modifications to the BCSP ByLaws go into effect

Effective Date: December 31, 2013

  • Retired Status discontinued — to return to Active Status, Retired Status holders can reinstate by December 31, 2013 or re-apply
  • BCSP will no longer award new Associate Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (AOHST) and Associate Construction Health and Safety Technician (ACHST) designations after December 31, 2013

Eligibility/Application

Effective Date: January 1, 2014

  • All eligible candidates may purchase a single, one (1) year eligibility extension for $100 before their eligibility end date – second eligibility extensions will no longer be offered
  • If candidates submit documentation of misdemeanor convictions which are more than five (5) years old, BCSP will include that documentation in its consideration of candidate eligibility
  • The eligibility period to take the CET examination is one (1) year from the application approval date — a one (1) year eligibility extension may be purchased for $100 before a candidate’s eligibility end date

Effective Date: April 30, 2013

  • BCSP will no longer require Reference Forms for BCSP certifications
  • A percentage of CSP, OHST, and CHST Applications will be randomly selected to have their Experience Form(s) audited — If your application is selected, you will be notified to provide documentation validating your experience

Effective Date: November 15, 2013

  • The list of Qualifying Academic Programs (QAP), which offer the GSP designation, will be updated
  • There remain four methods of waiving the ASP: Holding the Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification, being a Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH), holding the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification, or being a Professional Member of the Singapore Institute of Safety Officers (SISO). All must meet the CSP’s general eligibility requirements, such as experience and education.

Examination

Effective Date:April 30, 2013 — December 31, 2013

  • As part of a special offer, the CET examination fee will be reduced from $300 to $150 for those candidates who schedule and sit for the examination before December 31, 2013.

Effective Date: July 1, 2013

  • CHST and STS examinations will be based on updated CHST and STS blueprints for those who sit for examination after July 1, 2013

Recertification/Renewal

Effective Date: December 1, 2012

  • To extend the Recertification cycle, all BCSP certificants must submit a Recertification Extension Request Form and $100 payment
  • BCSP Recertification, Category 10, includes the Certified Protection Professional for 10 points, the Registered Professional Geologist for 10 points, the NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health for 5 points, the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health for 5 points, the Certified General Contractor for 3 points, and the Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork National Certification for 1 point

Effective Date: January 1, 2013

  • CET certificants who fail to comply with Recertification may reinstate before the end of the year in which they are invalidated — reinstatement involves taking and passing the CET examination, paying past renewal fee(s), paying any fees for the upcoming year (if assessed), and paying a $100 reinstatement fee

Reinstatement

Effective Date: January 1, 2013

  • CET certificants who wish to reinstate must reinstate before the end of the year in which they are invalidated, pay past renewal fee(s), pay any fees for the upcoming year (if assessed), and a $100 reinstatement fee
