Hopwood has over 42 years of experience providing risk control services to commercial insured’s nationally and worldwide, both from the carrier and insurance broker perspectives. He started his career with a global insurance carrier and then spent time on the broker side of the business as a Corporate Risk and Safety Director as well. Hopwood joined Sompo International in 2018 and is a Vice President and Regional Risk Control Leader. He is proud to have joined the BCSP’s Board of Directors effective January 2022.
Active in the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), Hopwood is a Professional Member of the organization and served as Assistant Regional Vice President and Vice President in Region 1 (19 chapters in 5 states). He’s also served on numerous Society Committees, such as the Leadership Conference Committee, and held several Chapter-focused offices, including President.
Hopwood is a published author, frequent conference speaker, and spent 25 years teaching in various colleges. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Science, Emphasis in Industrial Safety, and a Master of Public Health in Occupational Health from San Diego State University. Hopwood’s credentials include the Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), and Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP).
